Marina
Marina, made by Hagen, is an aquarium equipment brand — filters, heaters, gravel, thermometers and the everyday hardware a tank needs — and it does not make a 'senior' product line, because fish and tanks do not have a life stage in the way dogs and cats do. What actually matters as an aquarium or its fish age is water quality and stable conditions, and that is where the right Marina kit helps.
You might also want to browse hip and joint supplements, donut calming beds and cat beds.
There is no such thing as a senior fish food or filter
Unlike dog or cat food, aquarium products are not typically split by a life stage called 'senior'. What changes as a tank matures, or as fish within it get older, is less about a specific product and more about keeping water conditions stable and consistent — the single biggest factor in how well fish do over the long term.
An established, several-years-old aquarium can also accumulate more waste and debris in gravel and filter media than a newer one, simply from years of feeding and fish activity, which is where consistent maintenance kit becomes more important than it was when the tank was new.
What actually helps an older or established tank
A reliable heater that holds a steady temperature matters more the longer a tank has been running, since older or degrading equipment is more likely to drift or fail, and sudden temperature swings are one of the more common stresses on fish that have otherwise been settled for years. Checking a thermometer regularly, rather than trusting a heater's dial alone, is a simple habit worth keeping up.
Filtration that is sized properly for the tank, and replaced or cleaned on a proper schedule, becomes more important as an aquarium matures and its waste load builds up over time. A gravel cleaner used regularly during water changes also helps stop years of accumulated debris turning into a water quality problem.
What we stock for tank maintenance
Our Marina range includes heaters, thermometers, gravel cleaners and general tank hardware suited to keeping an established aquarium stable, alongside the gravel and decor used to set one up in the first place. What is shown in the grid above is what we currently have in stock, drawn from the wider Marina range.
If you are noticing changes in an older tank — cloudier water, more frequent algae, or fish that seem less active than they used to be — a water test kit and a look at your filtration and maintenance routine is a more useful starting point than assuming a specific product will fix it on its own.

Common questions
- Does Marina make a food or product specifically for older fish?
- No, Marina does not sell a dedicated 'senior' range, because fish and aquariums are not typically categorised by life stage the way pet food for dogs and cats is. What matters most for an ageing tank is stable water quality, which comes down to maintenance and equipment rather than a specific labelled product.
- How do I look after an established, older aquarium?
- Keep to a regular water change and gravel cleaning schedule, check your filter media is replaced or cleaned as recommended, and monitor temperature with a separate thermometer rather than relying on a heater's own dial. Consistency matters more here than any single product.
- Do fish need different care as they get older?
- Individual fish can slow down or become less active with age, similar to other pets, but there is no widely recognised senior-specific diet or product change required. Keeping water quality stable and consistent is the most useful thing you can do for fish at any stage of life.
