Cats sleep better with something at their back and a rim to tuck against, which is why a flat open mat gets ignored while a shallow woven nest gets used every single day. This is a hand-woven basket with sides high enough to lean on, made in natural fibre rather than moulded plastic, so air moves through the weave instead of heat collecting underneath a sleeping cat on a warm afternoon.

It comes with a cushioned mat for the base, and there is a choice of what goes inside it: a cotton pad for the colder half of the year, or a cooling mat for summer, picked at the point of ordering. The weave is finished with a bear-face detail at the front and rope handles at the sides, which sound purely decorative but earn their place when you want to shift a bed from a sunny windowsill to a quiet corner without tipping the cat out of it.

• Hand-woven natural-fibre basket with raised sides
• Cushioned base mat included
• Choice of cotton pad or cooling mat insert
• Two styles: woven rattan, or the Kapibala design
• Rope handles at the sides for moving it about
• Sizes M and L

Two corrections to the manufacturer's listing. It is described in places as having an attached sisal scratching post. The version we stock is a bed, with no post, so budget for a scratcher separately if your cat needs one. It has also been filed under rope toys, which it plainly is not.

Who it's for: Cat owners who want a breathable woven nest that works in summer and winter alike, and looks like furniture rather than pet kit.
