A treat called "Chicken & Cheese" tells you what a cat is meant to taste, not what most of the bag is made of, and Whiskas' own composition list makes that distinction clear if you read past the name.

Composition here is led by cereals, derivatives of vegetable origin, and oils and fats — with chicken making up 4% of the meat and animal derivatives, and dried cheese powder equivalent to 4% cheese. Analytically it runs high for a treat: 22% protein, 22% fat, and Whiskas say each treat is around 2 kcal.

• Composition led by cereals and vegetable derivatives, not meat
• Chicken 4% (of meat and animal derivatives)
• Dried cheese powder 2%, equivalent to 4% cheese
• Crude protein 22%, fat 22%, fibre 2%
• Around 2 kcal per treat, per Whiskas

What the name does not tell you. Both named flavours sit at 4% — chicken within the meat and animal derivatives, and cheese as the stated equivalent of the dried cheese powder — while cereals and vegetable derivatives are listed ahead of both on the composition list. Read "Chicken & Cheese" as the flavour, not the bulk of what's in the bag.

Who it's for: owners giving their cat an occasional treat by flavour preference, who want to know what's actually behind the name rather than assume it from the label.
