An ear-shaped chew looks, from across the shop, like the animal-part treats sold in the aisle next to it. The Veggie in the name is doing a lot of work to say it isn't one.

This is the same potato-starch-based recipe used across the WHIMZEES range, moulded into an ear shape, gluten-free and made without any meat or animal-derived ingredient.

• Single Veggie Ear chew
• Protein 1.1%, fat 2.0%, fibre 7.2%, ash 2.4%, moisture 12%
• Vegetarian — no animal ingredients despite the shape
• Not suitable for dogs under 9 months or under 5 pounds
• Gluten-free, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives
• One a day, Whimzees' guidance

On the name. Despite the shape, there is no animal ear, or any animal ingredient, in this chew — it's the same vegetarian recipe as the rest of the WHIMZEES range, just moulded into an ear shape. If you're buying it hoping for an actual animal-part chew, it's the wrong one.

Who it's for: owners who want a vegetarian alternative that still looks and chews like the animal-part treats on the shelf next to it, for a dog over both the 9-month and 5-pound minimums.
