Cats change their minds about how they want to sleep, sometimes several times in a day: buried and invisible in the morning, sprawled and lordly by the afternoon. Buying two beds to cover both moods is one answer. Folding a single bed into either shape is a better one, and that is what this is for. Rolled up it becomes an enclosed cave; opened out it turns into a deep-walled nest.

The material is a dense velvet over a PP cotton fill, and the density is the point rather than the softness. Thick sides hold their shape when folded into a dome instead of sagging shut on the cat inside, and they trap body heat rather than letting it disappear into a cold room. Opened out, those same walls become a rim high enough to rest a head on, which is how most cats prefer to sleep anyway.

• Folds from an enclosed cave into an open nest
• Velvet outer with a PP cotton fill
• Deep, thickly padded sides
• Two sizes: large and oversized
• Blue colourway
• Weighs 700g to 1.28kg depending on size

On the two sizes, and on warmth. Note as well that the warmth here is retained body heat, held in by thick walls. There is no heating element and nothing to plug in, which for most cats is exactly right.

Who it's for: Cats who burrow one day and sprawl the next, and owners of an older cat who feels the cold in a draughty room.
