Anyone who clips their own dog discovers the running cost on the second groom, not the first. The clipper is a one-off; the blade is the thing that wears, heats up and eventually stops cutting cleanly, and how you handle that is most of what home clipping actually costs over a few years. Whether a blade can be sharpened or only replaced is therefore a purchase decision, not a detail.

This is Wahl's Prime Series blade for the KM Supera pet clipper. Every one is precision ground from solid high-carbon steel, and because it is solid metal Wahl say it can be re-sharpened multiple times before it needs replacing at all. It is grooved so it stays cooler through a long session, which is the difference between clipping one dog and clipping several in an afternoon, and it fits with a quick-change system so it comes on and off without tools for cleaning, oiling or swapping mid-groom.
