A dog can't read the small print on a bag, so the difference between a food built around a named meat and one that just mentions it in passing is entirely something the owner has to work out for them.

This is Wagg's complete dry dog food, built on 26% meat meal and gravy, which itself contains a minimum of 5% beef, alongside whole grain wheat and barley, vegetable fibre, maize, chicken fat, whole linseeds, dried green peas and beet pulp, plus added minerals and vitamins. It comes in a 12KG bag, and Wagg say it's suitable for all breeds and made in the UK.

• Protein 20%, fat content 8%
• Fibre 3.5%, ash 8.5%
• Meat meal and gravy 26%, with a minimum of 5% beef
• Chicory root and yucca added, plus a full vitamin and mineral top-up
• Suitable for all breeds; made in the UK
• 2kg or 12kg bag

What "Beef" means on this bag. "Meaty Goodness Beef" names beef on the front, but the composition panel puts beef at a minimum of 5% within the 26% meat meal and gravy — both figures are on the label, they're just easy to read past each other. Whole grain wheat and barley are listed straight after that 26%, ahead of most other named ingredients.

Who it's for: owners of an adult dog of any breed wanting a straightforward, budget-friendly complete food in a large bag — not owners specifically shopping for a high-meat or beef-forward recipe.
