Full description

Small animals will often go straight for the crunchiest thing on offer, which is most of the reason a baked, pillar-shaped treat exists rather than something softer.

Vitakraft's Loftys are made from wheat flour, oat flour, wheat gluten, sugar, corn, nettle powder, salt and malt. They come out at crude protein 16%, crude fat 4%, crude fibre 1.7% and moisture 12%, and are suitable for all small animals according to the manufacturer.

What the label doesn't say: sugar and salt both appear in the ingredient list, which is worth knowing for an animal where sugar intake matters — this is an occasional treat rather than a forage substitute, and shouldn't be a large part of a small pet's daily food.

Who it's for: owners of small animals wanting a crunchy, baked treat, given occasionally rather than as a regular addition to a hay-based diet.

Why we chose it

It's a genuinely crunchy, baked treat rather than a soft one, which suits an animal that wants something to gnaw at. Worth knowing it does carry added sugar and salt, so it earns its place as an occasional extra rather than a daily habit.
