Drying grass rather than turning it into hay changes remarkably little about it beyond the water content, which is the entire selling point — the flavour, smell and nutrient value of fresh grass are kept close to intact rather than lost in a slower curing process.

This is dried grass grown in Yorkshire, with protein at 12%, fibre at 28% and oil at 2%. It's sold as a complementary product rather than a complete diet, and Friendly say it can be fed continuously (ad libitum) on its own or combined with quality hay, alongside constant access to fresh water.

• Composition: dried grass
• Protein 12%, fibre 28%, oil 2%
• Complementary product, not a complete diet
• Can be fed continuously or combined with hay
• 1KG pack

On "complementary." This is fibre for a small pet's diet, not a replacement for hay — Friendly's own guidance is that it can be fed alongside quality hay rather than instead of it, so treat it as an addition to an existing hay supply rather than a substitute.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals who want a fibre-rich forage to sit alongside their regular hay.
