This is not a treat in a bag. It is a sealed tray of enriched mineral soil with grass seed already in it, and you add water and wait. A few days later there is a tray of fresh grass on the windowsill that the cat can graze from directly, which is the only form of greenery most indoor cats will reliably eat.

The method is simple and worth getting right. There are six holes pre-prepared in the base of the tray which you punch out so the water drains, then you sit the tray on its own lid to catch what comes through, and pour in about 500 ml of water. It sprouts after three to four days. Keep it damp, and keep it warm and light but out of direct sun, which scorches it. The pack is 120 g of soil and seed.

It also needs somewhere warm and light that the cat cannot get at while it is sprouting, which is harder than it sounds.

What is actually in the pack?

A tray, a lid that doubles as a drip catcher, enriched mineral soil with no chemical additives, and a grass seed mix. There is no composition or analytical panel because nothing in the pack is a prepared feed. What your cat eats is grass you grew.

How long does it take and how long does it last?

It starts to sprout after three to four days. Once it is up, a single cat will graze a tray down and it will start to yellow soon after.

Why would a cat want grass?

Cats swallow a lot of hair when they groom, and grass helps it come back up rather than pass through. That is the whole reason this product exists, and it is why long-haired cats benefit most.

My cat ate it before it was ready. Is that a problem?

It is a problem for the tray rather than the cat. Sprouts are fine to eat, there is just not much of them. Keep it out of reach for the first few days, or you will be buying another one.

Can I just use a houseplant instead?

No. Several common houseplants are toxic to cats, and a cat that is looking for greenery will chew whichever one is nearest. A tray of cat grass is the cheap way to give it a safe target.
