Routine ear cleaning is one of those jobs that goes better with the right bottle. VetIQ Ear Cleaner is a gentle, alcohol-free solution for dogs and cats that loosens wax, dirt and debris so it can be wiped away, and the maker says it also reduces unpleasant odours.

It comes with an applicator cap for putting a controlled amount into the ear. This 150ml bottle replaced VetIQ's earlier 100ml size.

• 150ml bottle
• For dogs and cats
• Alcohol free
• Ingredients: propylene glycol, benzoic acid, neem oil, malic acid
• Applicator cap for controlled application
• To use: put a small amount into the ear canal, gently massage the base of the ear, let your pet shake its head, then wipe away the excess and loosened debris with cotton wool or a soft cloth

Two things worth knowing. This is a cleaner for routine ear care, not a treatment: VetIQ's own guidance says not to use it on damaged skin or inflamed ears without asking a vet first, so a sore, red, smelly or discharging ear needs a vet, not a cleaner. VetIQ don't publish how often to use it.

Who it's for: owners of dogs and cats, especially floppy-eared or waxy-eared breeds, who want a gentle cleaner for regular grooming.
