Most plush toys last one enthusiastic session. Tuffy build theirs differently: several layers of material bonded together, sewn through with multiple rows of stitching, then finished with protective webbing along every seam, which is where an ordinary soft toy gives way first. The starfish shape gives a dog five arms to grab, shake and carry about, and there is no hard core or rigid squeaker casing inside to crack under pressure.

Construction is the whole story here. Bonding the layers means a nick in the outer fabric does not immediately open the toy up, and the webbing takes the strain at the seams so the thread is not doing all the work on its own. It floats, which makes it genuinely useful at the beach or beside a river, and the whole thing goes in the machine when it comes home smelling of pond. Air dry it afterwards so the bonded layers keep their shape.

No toy is indestructible.
