Plush toys usually last one determined afternoon, and the stuffing ends up spread across the carpet by teatime. Tuffy's whole design premise is different. Rather than a single layer of fabric wrapped round a filling, their toys are built from several bonded layers with multiple rows of stitching and protective webbing over every seam, so the seam gives way a great deal later than it otherwise would.

The Desert Phrog is a leaping frog shape at 31.2 x 20.3 x 6.4cm and 181g, which puts it in genuinely useful throwing territory: light enough to send a fair distance, big enough for a medium or large dog to carry properly rather than swallow. It floats, so it works for river and beach retrieving where an ordinary plush toy sinks and is lost. It is machine washable too, and should be air dried rather than tumbled.

No toy is indestructible. Tuffy toys hold up to serious chewers far better than an ordinary plush, but they are still fabric, and a dog whose hobby is dismantling things will eventually get inside one. Treat it as a supervised fetch and tug toy rather than something left down with a power chewer all day, and retire it once a seam opens.
