An indoor cat with nothing to hunt will find something to hunt, and it is usually your ankles at six in the morning. A toy that moves under its own power gives that drive somewhere to go on the afternoons when nobody is home to trail a wand about the carpet. This one wriggles across the floor like something trying to get away, which is precisely the cue a cat is built to respond to.

The movement comes from a battery motor inside a soft caterpillar body, with a teaser dangling from it that swings independently as the toy travels. Two different kinds of motion in one object holds attention considerably longer than a single repeating action does. Holes along the body invite a paw in after whatever might be hiding inside, so a cat who has finished chasing has a second game to fall into rather than wandering off.

• Battery-powered, self-propelled wiggling action
• Dangling teaser that moves separately from the body
• Peek-a-boo holes that invite pouncing and paw-in play
• Built for solo play when nobody is home
• Supplied in one version, with no size or colour options

Two things worth knowing. Batteries are not listed as included, so assume you are supplying them. And no self-moving toy should be left running for long unsupervised stretches with a determined chewer, because a cat who works at a fabric toy hard enough will eventually reach the motor housing. Put it away between sessions rather than leaving it out on the floor.

Who it's for: Indoor cats who get bored through the working day, and owners who want play that carries on without them.
