Product description
Cats scratch to stretch out the whole length of the body and to strip the dead outer sheath off their claws, and a lot of them want to do it horizontally rather than up a post. Those are the cats who shred stair carpet and the edge of a rug. Giving them a designated floor surface, in the room where they are already doing it, is what actually stops the damage.
This is a woven mat that lies flat, so there is nothing to topple, tip over or bolt to a wall, and it can go exactly where the scratching happens rather than where a post would look tidy. The weave is an imitation sisal yarn rather than natural sisal fibre, and we would rather tell you that than let the product name imply otherwise. It gives the same coarse, catchable texture and sheds less, though natural sisal wears longer.
- Woven flat mat for cats who scratch horizontally
- Made from imitation sisal yarn rather than natural fibre
- Two sizes: 40 x 60cm and 50 x 80cm
- Available in grey or brown
- Lies flat, with nothing to assemble or fix to a wall
- Listed by the maker as suitable for cats and dogs
Placement beats persuasion. A scratching mat laid where you would like it to go gets ignored. The same mat laid over the exact corner of carpet your cat has already claimed usually gets adopted within days. If you have more than one cat, take the larger size or buy two, because cats do not queue for anything.
Who it's for: Cats who scratch carpets and rugs rather than posts, in homes with no room for a tower.
Why we chose it
Plenty of cats want to scratch horizontally rather than up a post, and those are the ones who shred stair carpet and the edge of a rug. Put a designated surface where it is already happening. Two cats means two mats.

Size guide & how to measure
The manufacturer's own Product Parameters panel gives four mat sizes.
How to measure
- Decide where the mat will go - beside a cat tree, under a bed or across a whole room.
- Measure that floor area with a tape measure.
- Choose the mat that covers it; sizes are given as width x length.
| Size | Size/CM |
|---|---|
| S | 40 x 60cm |
| M | 50 x 80cm |
| L | 100 x 150cm |
| XL | 200 x 300cm |
Measurements are the manufacturer's own figures. The panel states: "The above dimensions are all manually measured, please forgive me if there is a 1-2cm error." Both columns are headed "Size/CM" in the original panel. Separate colour-swatch images in the same listing are each labelled 50cm x 50cm - those are fabric samples, not the mat sizes.
