The reason most cats ignore the post you bought them is height. A cat scratching properly reaches up and pulls down through its whole body, and a column it cannot fully stretch against delivers none of that. This is a plain sisal column on a weighted round base, with no platforms, no fabric tube and nothing to come apart, sized as a second post rather than as the centrepiece of a room.

Sisal wound around the column is what makes it work. The fibre runs across the claw rather than with it, so it strips the old sheath cleanly, and it wears down evenly instead of tearing into hanging strips. The chassis is a solid disc about 2cm thick, and that thickness is doing real work, because a light base lets the whole post rock when a cat commits to it, and a post that rocks is a post that gets abandoned within days.

• Small: 24cm base diameter, 40cm column height, 6.5cm column diameter
• Large: 30cm base diameter, 44cm column height, 7cm column diameter
• Base disc approximately 2cm thick on both sizes
• Sisal wrapped along the full column
• Blue finish, supplied as one post

On height, honestly. An adult cat stretched out against a post can reach 60cm or more, and neither of these gets close to that. They work as a second post beside a sofa arm, or as a kitten's first one, rather than as the only scratching surface in the house. If your cat currently reaches up the door frame, take the large and add a taller post elsewhere as well.

Who it's for: Kittens, smaller adult cats, and multi-cat households adding a post to a second room so that nobody has to cross the house to scratch.
