Cats seek out warmth far more deliberately than dogs do, and an indoor cat alone in the house between nine and five has no radiator on and no lap to sit on. A reflective blanket is the simplest answer to that, because it needs no power at all. It can sit in a windowsill bed or on a cat tree shelf all day and be warm within a few minutes of the cat settling onto it.

The mechanism is entirely passive. A reflective layer beneath the plush sends body heat back up rather than letting it sink into whatever the blanket is lying on, so the cat warms the blanket and the blanket keeps it there. In practice that means putting it where the cold is coming from below, over tiles, a plastic carrier tray or a wooden shelf, and it means the blanket feels stone cold to your hand with no cat on it. That is normal and not a fault.

• One size: 95 x 65cm
• Two colours: cream white or yellow
• Available singly or as a two-piece pack
• Plush surface over a self-heating reflective layer
• For indoor use, no power required

One size only, despite the label. Every option is listed as M, but 95 x 65cm is the only size made, so the letter is not offering you a choice. The two-piece packs are simply two identical blankets, which is genuinely useful in a multi-cat house or for keeping one in the wash. And nothing self-heating will warm an unoccupied room, so it should not be the only warmth in a carrier on a long winter journey.

Who it's for: Indoor cats left alone during the working day, elderly cats who actively seek out heat, and multi-cat homes wanting the same blanket on two beds.
