A crate that has to be screwed together the first time, and unscrewed again to fit in a car boot, tends to stay built in a corner — which defeats a lot of the point of a crate being portable at all.

This is Sharples' Safe 'N' Sound crate, black, with two doors for access from either side. It needs no tools to assemble, folding down flat or setting up in seconds, and the plastic base tray pulls out for cleaning. This listing is the small size, 61 x 46 x 48cm; Sharples make the range in five sizes.

On sizing. Sharples give the dimensions for this small size only — 61 x 46 x 48cm — and don't publish a weight or breed guide against it, so measure your dog stretched out, not just standing, before choosing small over the next size up.

Who it's for: owners who want a crate that actually gets folded down and moved — for the car, for visiting family, for a holiday — rather than one that's assembled once and never touched again.
