Full description
Most cats will investigate something that suddenly moves on its own far more readily than a toy that just sits there waiting to be pounced on.
Speedy Hedgehog is a pull-back motorised toy: you draw it backwards, let go, and it scoots forward under its own power. It's covered in soft fur and plush material over the mechanism, part of Sharples Pet's Ruff 'N' Tumble range.
- Pull-back motorised action
- Covered in soft fur and plush material
- Weighs 0.03kg
- Sold as a single toy
On the mechanism. Ruff 'N' Tumble don't publish how many pulls the motor is rated for or what happens once it wears out, and a pull-back mechanism inside a plush cover is not something you can repair — when it stops moving, that's the end of it as a motorised toy, though the fur casing will likely outlast the motor.
Who it's for: cats that are motivated by movement over texture, and owners who want an interactive-feeling toy that doesn't need a human holding the other end.

Common questions
How does it work?
Pull it back and let go — the motorised mechanism sends it scooting forward.
What is it made of?
Soft fur and plush material over the pull-back mechanism.
How much does it weigh?
0.03kg.
Can I leave my cat alone with it?
No manufacturer guidance is given either way; a mechanical toy with a cover that could be chewed through is one we'd keep an eye on rather than leave out unattended.

Why we chose it
A toy that moves under its own power gets a reaction from cats that a static toy usually doesn't. It's also light enough that it costs very little to post, which keeps the price down at this end of the range.
