Full description
Cats scratch to stretch their shoulders and to shed the worn outer layer from their claws, and they will use whatever surface sits closest to where they sleep. That is usually the sofa. Putting a corrugated board within a stride of the favourite napping spot is the single most reliable way to change that habit, and this one gives them somewhere to lie down afterwards as well.
The bowl shape is the point. Flat pads get scratched once and then ignored, whereas a curved wall of layered corrugated cardboard gives a cat something to pull against at an angle, which is closer to the stretch they get from a tree trunk or a stair carpet. The same curve makes a shallow nest, so the board doubles as a place to curl up. Cardboard is soft enough to shred satisfyingly and dense enough to last.
- Four sizes: 30cm, 40cm, 45cm and 50cm across, each 9cm deep
- Layered corrugated cardboard throughout
- Curved bowl walls for angled scratching
- Doubles as a shallow bed once scratched in
- Light enough to move between rooms
On sizing and lifespan. A grown cat lying down needs the 45cm or the 50cm if the bed half is going to get used; the 30cm suits a kitten or a cat who only wants to scratch. Cardboard is a consumable by design, so it will shed flakes and eventually wear through, which is the material doing its job rather than failing at it.
Who it's for: Cat owners who want scratching and napping in the same spot, and who would rather replace a cheap board now and then than reupholster a sofa.

Why we chose it
A bowl shape means the cat scratches the walls and then sleeps in the middle, which is why it gets used rather than ignored. Cardboard wears; that is the point, and it costs little to replace. Four sizes.
