Puppy necks are small, and a great many collars sold as adjustable simply do not go tight enough for one. You end up on the last hole with a collar that still slides straight over the ears. Narrow webbing matters for a small dog beyond just looking right on them. On fitting a growing puppy. Measure the neck and check it weekly, because puppies outgrow a collar startlingly fast and one left unchecked can end up dangerously tight within a month. Two fingers should slide comfortably underneath at all times. Take it off for crate time and unsupervised play, and remember that a collar carries a tag but a microchip is what gets a lost dog home.
