On a walk you have a lead in one hand, and that is the whole design problem. Everything else has to be done with the other one, in the dark, often in the rain, and usually whilst the dog leans hard in the opposite direction. Putting the bag roll inside the handle of the scoop means the two things you need arrive together instead of one of them sitting in a coat pocket you are not wearing today.

The body is ABS plastic, which is the sensible choice for something that lives in a pocket or clipped to a lead: it is rigid enough that the jaw closes properly and tough enough to survive being dropped on a pavement. The claw jaw grips rather than scrapes, so it takes hold of waste sitting down in grass or gravel instead of pushing it further in, and it releases straight into the bag. A free roll of bags comes with it, so it works from the first walk.

Check the measurement first. It is also worth being straight about where a claw jaw is good: excellent on grass, gravel and bark chip, less good on flat wet pavement, where a scoop with a straight leading edge lifts more cleanly.
