On the recycled figure

Beco give three different numbers for the same thing on the same sheet: the materials line says PE with 40% post-consumer recycled content, the marketing line says 100% of the plastic in the bags is post-consumer recycled, and the composition line says 98% recycled PE with 2% colouring and stabilisers. We have no way of telling you which is right, and we are not going to pick the flattering one. What is not in dispute is that they are not biodegradable or compostable.

Why we chose it

Handles are the reason to stock this one over the cheaper rolls, because a bag you can tie one-handed is the whole job. Buying the biggest box is much cheaper per bag, and poo bags are the one thing nobody regrets over-ordering.

Specifications
Material
PE (40% post-consumer recycled), Post-consumer recycled cardboard We all have a responsibility to clean up after our dogs. When choosing which poop bag to use, it comes down to how you dispose of your dog’s waste. Available in scented or unscented, our recycled bags are a great option for those who dispose of their dog’s poop in park bins or general waste. No bags break down in landfill so if that’s where the bag is heading, it’s best to choose recycled. Recycling gives waste plastic a second life and is 44% more energy efficient to manufacture than virgin plastic. If you dispose of your dog’s waste in a well-managed, contained home compost system, making compost for non-edible plants, we recommend our home compostable bags. Store in a cool dry place, out of reach for pets and children

Full description

A poo bag almost never fails in the middle. It fails at the knot, in the cold, with one hand full and a lead in the other — which is why handles are a better feature than any amount of extra thickness.

Beco's answer is a bag with easy-tie handles, made thick and leakproof, dispensed one at a time from a recycled cardboard box rather than pulled off a roll. They are unscented, which is the version to choose if perfume in a bag bothers you. Beco are clear about disposal too: these are recycled bags for the general waste or a park bin, not compostable ones, and they point their own home-compostable range at anyone with a contained compost system.

  • Tie handles on every bag
  • Unscented
  • Made from PE with post-consumer recycled content
  • Post-consumer recycled cardboard box
  • Dispensed from the box one at a time
  • Three box sizes on this page
  • For general waste, not for composting

We have no way of telling you which is right, and we are not going to pick the flattering one. What is not in dispute is that they are not biodegradable or compostable.

Who it's for: anyone who bins in a park bin or the general waste and would rather the plastic be recycled than virgin, and people who have had a knot fail once and are not doing it again.

Common questions
Are they scented?

No. This is the unscented version. Beco make a minty one separately.

Are they compostable or biodegradable?

No. Beco are explicit that these are recycled bags for the general waste bin, and point their home compostable range at anyone with a contained composting system.

How much recycled content is in them?

Beco quote three different figures on the same sheet: 40% post-consumer recycled PE on the materials line, 100% of the plastic on the marketing line, and 98% recycled PE with 2% colouring and stabilisers on the composition line. We cannot tell you which is correct.

Do they have handles?

Yes. Every bag has easy-tie handles, which is the main difference from a plain roll.

How do they come out of the box?

They dispense one at a time from the box, which is post-consumer recycled cardboard.
