Specifications

Brand: Pillow Wad
Dimensions: 30cm x 30cm x 50cm

Full description

A rabbit, a rat or a guinea pig spends its entire life at floor level with its nose a couple of centimetres from whatever you put down. Nothing else in the cage gets breathed the way the bedding does, which is why the processing matters more than the appearance and why the word to look for on a bag is not soft but dust.

Pillow Wad's answer is white softwood shavings that are kiln dried and then dust extracted, with what they describe as natural odour control. It comes as a compressed bale weighing 3.6kg, and it is put forward for all animal types rather than one species.

Described as suitable for all animal types

On size. We sell this bale by weight, 3.6kg. A compressed bale also expands considerably once it is opened, and how many cage changes it covers depends entirely on your cage and how deep you lay it, which nobody has published either. Note too that dust extracted is not the same claim as dust free.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters and gerbils who buy bedding by the bale rather than the handful, and anyone who has had a small pet with a sensitive chest and wants the processing spelled out.

Common questions

Which animals is it for?

Pillow Wad describe it as making a safe, warm bed for all animal types rather than naming a single species.

Is it dust free?

It is dust extracted, which is not the same as dust free. Pillow Wad make no dust-free claim and we will not make one for them.

How much is in a bale?

3.6kg. It is compressed, so it takes up more room once opened than it does in the bag.

Is it scented?

No scent is declared. Pillow Wad describe it as having natural odour control, with no added fragrance stated.

What size is the bale?

No usable size has been supplied. We sell it by weight, 3.6kg, rather than by dimensions.

Why we chose it

Bedding is bought on weight and used faster than anyone expects, so the bale is the sensible unit. It is bulky rather than heavy, which makes it one of the better things to add to an order you are already having sent.
