Loose shavings and sawdust move around a cage constantly, get kicked into corners, and tend to produce more dust than an owner or a small animal's lungs would like. A pelleted bedding behaves differently - the pellets stay roughly where they're put rather than drifting.

Back 2 Nature Small Animal Bedding is a patented Paper Pellet Bedding, precision rolled so the pellets don't move around the hutch, cage or vivarium the way loose bedding does. It's highly absorbent with what the manufacturer describes as outstanding odour control, and is virtually dust free, making it suitable for small animals, rodents, birds and reptiles alike. It's made in the UK, biodegradable and compostable, and intended as a replacement for shavings, sawdust or sand rather than a bedding used alongside them.

• Precision-rolled paper pellets that stay in place

One thing worth knowing. The pellets are designed to stay in place, so they behave differently to loose bedding when an animal tries to burrow - they are not loose enough to nest in the way shavings are. If burrowing matters for your pet, check this against what you currently use before switching entirely.

Who it's for: owners who find loose shavings or sawdust dusty or messy, and want a bedding that stays put with strong odour control across a range of small animals, birds and reptiles.
