Dried Meat Slice Pet Treats

A treat with one ingredient on the back of the bag is rarer than it ought to be. Most training treats are bulked out with cereals, glycerine and added flavourings to keep them soft and cheap. These are meat, sliced thin and slow-dried until the moisture has gone and the flavour has concentrated down. What is left is simply the thing that dogs and cats actually want.

Slow drying matters more than it sounds. Blasting a slice with heat cooks the outside and traps moisture in the middle, which is what makes cheaper dried treats turn soft or spoil in a training pouch. Drying gently over a longer period takes the water out evenly, so the slice stays firm and keeps. The thinness is the other useful part: a thin slice tears cleanly, so one treat becomes five rewards instead of one large mouthful.
