Full description

Cooling that needs no freezer, no gel and no plug. This is a slab of glass-like ice stone that sits a shade below room temperature and pulls heat out of whatever lies on it. Nothing has to be charged or prepared in advance, so it can simply be put down in a cage or a favourite corner from May onwards and then more or less forgotten about.

The way it works is conduction rather than refrigeration. The stone is dense and draws warmth from an animal faster than the surrounding air can put it back, which is why it feels cold to the hand. That also means it works best out of direct sun and on a cool floor; set it on a warm windowsill and it will simply equalise and stop doing anything useful. There is no gel to puncture and nothing to leak.
