A working dog burns through calories a pet dog never will, which is the whole reason a 'working dog' recipe almost always means one thing: more fat than the standard version of the same food.

This one is sold and stored frozen, built around 85% duck (including bone) with apple, butternut squash, carrot, kelp, salmon oil and spinach, plus added vitamin C. It's formulated as a complete diet rather than something to feed alongside another food.

• 1KG pack, sold and stored frozen
• 85% duck, including bone, plus apple, butternut squash, carrot, kelp, salmon oil and spinach
• Protein 21.2%, fat 15.6%, fibre 1.6%
• Calcium 1.1%, phosphorus 0.7%, sodium 0.1%
• Complete food — formulated as the whole diet
• Vitamin C added

On the fat content. At 15.6% fat, this is a higher-energy recipe than a standard maintenance raw food, which Natural Instinct pitch at working dogs specifically. A dog with a lower activity level fed this as its everyday diet could put on weight faster than expected, so it's worth matching the recipe to the dog's actual workload rather than the name on the pack.

Who it's for: working dogs, or genuinely high-activity pet dogs, who need more energy in their daily food than a standard complete diet provides.
