Wonder Bar is a newer chew from Nova Dog Chews, a family firm in Ayrshire. It is a hand-poured bar of beef gelatine and collagen with a natural beef liver flavour, coloured with black carrot extract and seasoned with a little salt, and nothing else. It starts firm and softens as the dog works at it, and Nova say it is digestible and designed not to splinter the way harder chews can.

Because it is poured, no two bars look quite alike: Nova say you may see a pale foam like icing on one face, or small clear or white bubbles, and that neither changes the chew. If your dog finds it too hard, soak one end in warm water for 3-5 minutes first. Nova also suggest soaking the last little end piece and microwaving or baking it into a crunchy 'collagen puff' rather than throwing it away.

Two things worth knowing. Nova don't publish the weight of a bar or a calorie figure, so we can't tell you how long it lasts or how much to trim from meals; at 74% protein it is not a 'free' snack. Supervise every session and take the chew away once it is small enough to swallow.
