A plastic dog bed is not really a bed. It is a rim, and the bed is whatever goes inside it, which is why the number that decides whether you have bought the right one is not how big it looks in the photograph but how much cushion it will actually hold.

Moderna publish both measurements for the Domus, which is more than most makers do. Inside, it is 78.8 x 49.2cm — that is the space a cushion has to fit into. Outside, it is 92.1 x 60.2 x 25.9cm, which is the floor it takes up in a utility room or a corner of the kitchen. The sides are raised to keep a cushion from being dragged out, the base is ventilated so the dog is not lying on sealed plastic, and there are non-slip rubber feet with a stable base so the whole thing does not skid or tip when a dog steps into it. It is made from over 98% recycled plastic, BPA-free and non-toxic, and washes with warm soapy water.

Nothing supplied to us says a cushion is included. Moderna's own description talks about keeping cushions in place, which reads as your cushion rather than one in the box, so plan on buying a pad separately and check it against the 78.8 x 49.2cm internal size before you do. There is also no dog-size guide at all — no breed list, no weight range — so measure your dog lying stretched out rather than trusting the words Extra Large. And no claim is made anywhere that the plastic is chew-proof; a determined chewer will find the rim.
