A guillotine-style clipper and a scissor-style one give a very different amount of control over exactly where the cut lands, and for a nervous dog or a nervous owner, that control matters more than speed.

Mikki's Claw Scissors use a scissor action rather than a guillotine, with precision cutting blades that Mikki say are heat-treated for strength and durability. A finger rest is built into the handle for extra control during the cut.

• Scissor-action design, not guillotine
• Precision cutting blades

• Finger rest for extra control

On which dogs it suits. Mikki don't give a size range on this card for which dogs the blades suit best — small nails cut cleanly with a scissor design generally, but if you have a very large dog with thick nails, check the product listing for guidance before relying on this style alone.

Who it's for: owners who want more visible control over where the blade lands than a guillotine clipper gives, particularly for a nervous dog or a first-time nail trim.
