An undercoat that's never raked out doesn't just shed more, it insulates less — a packed undercoat traps heat against the skin exactly when a double-coated dog needs to lose it, not hold onto it.

This rake has rotating, rounded-tip stainless steel teeth designed to reach skin-deep without scratching, built to tease through knots and tangles while pulling dead hair out of the undercoat. Mikki's method is to run it through the coat with no more pressure than you'd use on your own hair, gently sawing back and forth to loosen tangles, then finishing with a Mikki brush to layer the coat. This is the Large size, aimed at large double-coated breeds such as Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, Huskies, Newfoundlands, German Shepherds and Retrievers.
