A cat with nowhere to climb takes the height it can find, which is usually the top of the bookcase and whatever was standing on it. Giving them a proper tall structure with several levels moves that behaviour somewhere you have chosen, and it puts a scratching surface at the bottom of a route they already want to take. This one is built in wood across several levels, with a ramp, railed perches and an enclosed condo.

The posts are wrapped in sisal, which is the material that actually works, because cats need a coarse vertical surface they can dig into and drag down through, and a carpeted post shreds long before it satisfies anything. The condo is cut with a cat-shaped opening and gives a fully enclosed spot at height, which is the safest combination a cat can be offered. A clear bubble dome fits into one level so they can lie in it and watch the room.

• Multi-level wooden frame
• Sisal-wrapped scratching posts
• Enclosed cat-shaped condo
• Railed perches for lounging at height
• Climbing ramp between levels
• Clear bubble dome for watching the room

Two things worth knowing. And any tall tree wants to stand against a wall, ideally with the frame fixed back, because the moment a cat launches off the top perch is the moment a free-standing tower finds out how stable it really is.

Who it's for: Indoor cats with energy and no garden, in homes with the floor space and the ceiling height to give them a proper climb.
