Water left out in a garden bowl on a warm day heats up faster than most owners expect, which turns the one thing meant to help a dog cool down into something barely better than room temperature by mid-afternoon. This bowl works around that by freezing a section of the bowl itself.

It's made from translucent plastic, standing 6cm high with a 19cm diameter. There's a screwable cap section that you fill with water and place in the freezer for 4 to 6 hours, or until frozen, before unscrewing the cap and using the bowl as normal - the frozen section then keeps the drinking water cooler for longer than an ordinary bowl would.

• 19cm diameter, 6cm high
• Translucent plastic construction
• Screw cap section, freeze for 4-6 hours before use
• Designed to keep drinking water cooler for longer

On planning ahead. Because the freezing section needs 4 to 6 hours in the freezer, this isn't a bowl you can use spontaneously on a hot afternoon - it works best if you freeze it the night before or first thing in the morning, ready for when it's needed.

Who it's for: owners wanting to keep a dog's water cooler through a hot day or on a garden visit, without needing to keep refilling from a cold tap.
