Joint Aid for Dogs

Joint supplements get bought with hope, so the honest thing to put first is that we cannot tell you whether this one works. What we can tell you is what GWF say is in it, how it is fed, and — more usefully — what they have not published.

Joint Aid comes as small 2mm pellets that go in alongside ordinary food rather than being given separately. GWF describe it as a combination of 32 active nutraceuticals including glucosamine, with omega 3 and what they call their Oatinol delivery system, and state that it is 100% wheat free, soya free and non-GM. It is manufactured to Universal Feed Assurance Scheme standards, and GWF say it can be fed to dogs of any age.

What the label we hold does not say. GWF publish no composition list and no analytical constituents to us, which on a supplement is exactly the information you would most want — so we cannot tell you how much glucosamine is in a serving, and nor can the pack in front of us. Their claims about mobility and cartilage are theirs rather than ours. And a dog who has started struggling on stairs or gone stiff after a walk needs a vet to look at them; a supplement is something you feed alongside whatever that vet advises, not instead of the appointment.

Who it's for: owners of an older or hard-working dog who have already had the mobility conversation with their vet and want something to add to the bowl daily.
