A cat decides about a treat in roughly half a second. The owner decides about a fortnight later, when the packet is empty and nobody can honestly say how many went out of it — which is an argument for buying treats in a unit small enough to keep track of.

The composition here reads chicken breast at 100% and then stops, and HiLife declare no additives at all. Freeze-drying pulls the water out rather than cooking it off, which is why the analysis lands where it does: protein 80%, fat 6.5%, crude fibres 0.1% and crude ash 4.0%. The packet is 10G, which HiLife describe as 50 treating occasions, and they class it as a complementary food for adult cats.

• 10G packet, stated by HiLife as 50 treating occasions
• Chicken breast, 100% of the composition
• Protein 80%, fat 6.5%, crude fibres 0.1%, crude ash 4.0%
• Freeze dried, with no additives declared
• Grain free, and stated free from fillers, soya and GMOs
• A complementary treat for adult cats

What the packet leaves you to work out. There is no calorie figure and no daily limit, which matters more on something this concentrated than it would on a biscuit — 80% protein is a dense mouthful of food rather than a token. HiLife also specify adult cats, so a kitten sits outside what they state. And a treating occasion is their unit, not a measured one: no piece weight or piece count is published, so how far the packet stretches depends on how generous you are with each one.

Who it's for: owners of a fussy adult cat, anyone who reads the ingredient list on cat treats and puts most of them back, and people hand-feeding treats for training or for practice at being handled.
