Size guide & how to measure
Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
How to measure
- Stand your dog up squarely.
- Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
- If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger one.
| Size | Typical chest / girth | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 28–40 cm | Toy breeds, very small dogs |
| S | 38–53 cm | Small dogs (e.g. Dachshund, Yorkie) |
| M | 50–68 cm | Medium dogs (e.g. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle) |
| L | 65–85 cm | Large dogs (e.g. Labrador, Boxer) |
| XL | 82–105 cm | Giant breeds (e.g. German Shepherd, Rottweiler) |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.
Full description
A harness that pulls tight across a dog's chest with every lunge on the lead is uncomfortable in a way a collar simply isn't, which is the whole argument for padding where the strap actually crosses the chest.
Hemm & Boo's harness is made from nylon fabric, padded with fleece across the chest area, fully adjustable, and finished with reflective edging for visibility. This is size 1, fitting a 22-26 inch girth; the weight for this size is 0.24kg.
- Size 1 fits a 22-26 inch girth
- Nylon fabric construction
- Fleece padding across the chest
- Reflective edging
- Fully adjustable fit
- Weighs 0.24kg (size 1)
On sizing. Only this size's girth range is on the facts we hold — 22-26 inches — so if that's not close to your dog's chest measurement, check Hemm & Boo's other sizes before buying rather than guessing this one will stretch to fit.
Who it's for: owners of a dog that pulls on the lead, wanting a harness with padding across the chest rather than a thin strap, in either black or red.

Why we chose it
The fleece padding across the chest is the detail that separates this from a basic nylon harness at a similar price — that's the part that actually rubs on a dog that pulls. Reflective edging is a small addition that matters more than it sounds on darker walks.
