Size guide & how to measure
Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
How to measure
- Stand your dog up squarely.
- Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
- If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger one.
| Size | Typical chest / girth | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 28–40 cm | Toy breeds, very small dogs |
| S | 38–53 cm | Small dogs (e.g. Dachshund, Yorkie) |
| M | 50–68 cm | Medium dogs (e.g. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle) |
| L | 65–85 cm | Large dogs (e.g. Labrador, Boxer) |
| XL | 82–105 cm | Giant breeds (e.g. German Shepherd, Rottweiler) |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.
Full description
A dog that pulls hard on a lead is usually pulling from its shoulders and chest, which is exactly why a harness clipped at the back gives it more leverage to keep doing so - the lead attachment point ends up behind the direction of the pull rather than working against it. Front-clip designs exist specifically to change that.
The Halti Front Harness clips at the chest, giving control that steers a dog from the chest and shoulders rather than letting it pull straight ahead against a back-mounted point. Halti position it as an alternative for dogs who don't like wearing, or can't wear, a head collar, while still aiming to give the same level of control over pulling.
- Front-clip design, steers from chest and shoulders
- Alternative to a head collar
- Black and red colourway
- Large size
On getting the size right. Halti don't give a girth measurement or weight range for the Large on this card, so it's worth checking your dog's chest and girth measurements against a size guide elsewhere, or against a harness you already own, before ordering.
Who it's for: owners of a dog that pulls on the lead and either can't or won't wear a head collar comfortably, who want front-clip control instead.

Why we chose it
Front-clip control genuinely changes the mechanics of pulling rather than just adding padding to a standard harness, which is why it's worth stocking as a distinct option from a back-clip design. It's also a sensible alternative for the dogs that simply won't tolerate a head collar, whatever the reason.
