Product description

A rawhide roll, coloured and rolled tight, for dogs who need twenty minutes of something to do. This is an occupier rather than a treat you hand over and forget.

The composition is short and tells you what you are buying: rawhide, rice starch, rice oil, with colourants and preservatives declared as additives. The analytical panel reads 77% crude protein, which sounds extraordinary until you remember rawhide is collagen, and collagen is protein that a dog largely does not digest.

Rawhide with rice starch and rice oil
Crude protein 77%, fat 6%, moisture 16%
Colourants and preservatives declared
Not for puppies under 4 months

Rawhide needs watching and this pack says so. Good Boy's own guidance is to supervise, to give it on a surface that will not stain, and to pick a chew slightly larger than the dog's mouth. A roll chewed down to a soft lump is the point at which it should be taken away.

Who it's for: adult dogs over four months who chew methodically, in a house where someone is in the room.

Why we chose it

Rawhide divides people, and we would rather stock one clearly labelled roll than pretend the category does not exist. Good Boy print the composition, the panel and the additives plainly, which is more than most rawhide in the UK manages.

Common questions

Why is the protein 77%?

Because rawhide is essentially collagen. It is a real figure off the label, but it does not mean the roll is a protein source in any useful sense.

How many can my dog have?

Good Boy's line is that chews should not exceed 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake, fed alongside a balanced diet.

Are the colours artificial?

The label declares colourants as additives. Good Boy do not name which ones on their site.

Is it safe to leave my dog alone with one?

Good Boy say to supervise. Rawhide softens as it is chewed and a piece small enough to swallow whole is the risk you are watching for.
