All about this product

Product description

A rabbit ear is about as simple as a dog treat gets. One ear, slowly dried, with the fur still on it. The fur is the point rather than an oversight: it gives the ear a scratchy, fibrous texture that a dog has to work at instead of swallowing whole, and it is the reason hairy ears have a long reputation among breeders and raw feeders.

The composition is the name. There is no grain, no cereal binder, no glaze and nothing sprayed on afterwards, which makes an ear one of the few treats you can check by looking at it. Rabbit is also a genuinely unusual protein in a British treat cupboard, so an ear is worth knowing about if chicken or beef causes trouble at your house. They are flat and light, so a 100g bag holds a good number of them, and each one is a short focused chew rather than an evening's work.

  • One ingredient: dried rabbit ear with the fur on
  • Single protein, useful on an exclusion diet or a chicken free house
  • 100g bag
  • A complementary treat, not part of a meal
  • Dry and crunchy rather than a long hard chew

The worming claim is folklore, not medicine. Almost everyone who sells hairy ears repeats that the fur sweeps parasites through the gut. It is a genuinely old belief among breeders, but there is no treatment claim on the pack and there is no evidence we would put in front of you. Feed these because they are a clean single ingredient chew your dog enjoys, and keep worming to whatever your vet has you on.

Who it's for: Dogs on an exclusion diet, dogs who inhale anything softer, and anyone who wants an ingredient list they can read out loud in one breath. Less good for a powerful jaw that wants half an hour of work, because an ear does not last that long.

Why we chose it

We wanted one genuinely plain thing on the treat shelf, with an ingredient list a person can verify by looking rather than take on trust. A hairy ear is that, and rabbit is a protein most British dogs have never met, which makes it useful when you are trying to work out what a dog reacts to. It is also cheap enough to hand out without doing arithmetic first.

Common questions
What is actually in them?

One thing. Dried rabbit ear with the fur on. No grain, no additives, nothing painted on afterwards.

Why is the fur left on?

It is what gives the ear its texture and its fibre, and it slows a dog down. Sellers also claim the fur helps carry parasites out of the gut, which is a traditional belief rather than a proven treatment.

Why is there no analytical constituents panel?

Because a single ingredient treat does not need one, and we are not going to borrow a panel from somebody else's bag of ears. Some makers publish one for rabbit ears and some publish none at all. If you need a figure for a specific reason, ask us and we will read the bag in front of us rather than guess.

Are they safe for puppies?

The pack guidance we have seen for hairy ears puts them at eight weeks and over. Whatever the age, a chew treat wants supervision: one at a time, somewhere you do not mind, and take the last small piece away rather than letting it be swallowed.

How many can a dog have?

It is a treat, not dinner. The usual rule on treat packs is to keep treats to about a tenth of what your dog eats in a day, and to keep fresh water available.

How long does delivery take?

Your estimated delivery date is shown above and updates automatically. UK orders are sent tracked — standard delivery is £2.99, and free on orders over £39.

How do I track my order?

As soon as your order is dispatched we email you a tracking link, so you can follow it all the way to your door.

What if I need to return my order?

You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind (food, treats and frozen items have a shorter window). Just email us with your order number and we’ll send the return steps the same working day — see our delivery & returns page for details.
