Watch an older or long-legged dog eat from a bowl on the floor and the strain is easy to see: the neck drops below the shoulders, the front legs splay, and the whole thing gets rushed to be over with. Lifting the bowls closer to chest height lets the dog stand square and swallow with the head in a natural line, which is why raised feeders are commonly recommended for arthritic and larger dogs.

Both bowls lift out, which is the detail that makes this practical day to day. Stainless steel is non-porous, so it never develops the scratched, bacteria-holding surface plastic gets within months, it holds no smells, and it goes in the dishwasher. Two bowls in one frame keep food and water together, which suits a pet who drinks with meals. The legs fold flat, so the stand goes into a boot or a cupboard rather than standing all year.

• Two removable stainless steel bowls
• Raised frame for more comfortable eating and drinking
• Legs fold flat for storage and travel
• Bowls are dishwasher safe and hold no odours
• Colours include white, blue, pink, green, red and black
• Variants offered as folding or three-position

Two things worth knowing. Second, raised bowls suit some dogs and not others, and the evidence on bloat in deep-chested breeds is mixed, so ask your vet if that applies to yours.

Who it's for: Owners of an older, arthritic or tall dog who eats awkwardly from the floor, and anyone who wants a feeding station that packs away.
