Product description

Eukanuba's large breed adult food, built round 18% fresh chicken plus a further 18% dried chicken and turkey. Between them that is 36% poultry, which is the figure to compare against other large breed kibble.

The detail that distinguishes it is the joint and weight support declared in quantities: glucosamine from animal tissues at 0.04%, chondroitin named as coming from the dried poultry, L-carnitine at 50mg/kg and sodium hexametaphosphate at 0.34%. That last one is the dental ingredient, included to bind salivary calcium and slow tartar. Protein is 24% and fat 13%.

Fresh chicken 18%, dried chicken and turkey 18%
Protein 24%, fat 13%, fibre 2.1%
L-carnitine 50mg/kg, sodium hexametaphosphate 0.34%
Calcium 1.25%, phosphorus 1.04%

This is a cereal food and four cereals are named. Maize, wheat, oats, barley and sorghum all appear after the poultry. Eukanuba do not pretend otherwise and the food is formulated round them, but anyone who moved to grain free for a reason should know that before buying a large breed sack.

Who it's for: adult dogs over 25kg in regular work or exercise, where joint support and a calorie-dense kibble both matter.

Why we chose it

Thirty-six per cent poultry with the joint and dental components each carrying a declared quantity is a serious label for a large breed food. We stock it for working and active big dogs where the calories are the point.

Common questions

How much do I feed a 30kg dog?

Eukanuba's table gives 270 to 300g a day at 30kg, and 205 to 230g at 20kg. Their guidance is to adjust to maintain ideal body weight.

How much chicken is really in it?

Fresh chicken 18% plus dried chicken and turkey 18%, of which chicken is 11%. So 36% poultry in total.

What is the sodium hexametaphosphate for?

It is the dental ingredient. It binds calcium in saliva, which slows the rate at which plaque hardens into tartar. Declared at 0.34%.

Does it contain grain?

Yes. Maize, wheat, oats, barley and sorghum are all in the composition.
