Three separate pieces of cat furniture usually end up in three separate corners of a room, and two of them go unused. Putting the bed, the hide and the scratching surface into a single barrel solves the space problem and something subtler besides: cats scratch when they wake, so a post attached to where they sleep gets used, while one placed across the room quietly does not.

The unit is built as two storeys with plush-lined entry holes, so a cat can sit up top and survey the room or drop inside and disappear altogether. The sides are wrapped in sisal, which is the surface cats genuinely prefer for scratching: coarse enough to shred satisfyingly, and vertical enough to let them get a full stretch through the shoulders and back, which is half the point of scratching in the first place.

• Two storeys within one enclosed unit
• Sisal-wrapped sides for scratching
• Plush-lined entry holes
• Enclosed interior for hiding and sleeping
• Upper level for perching and watching the room
• Bed, hide and scratching post in a single footprint

Who it's for: Cat owners short on space who want a hide, a bed and a scratching post in one, and anyone whose sofa arm is losing the fight.
