Cats want two things from a piece of furniture that are usually sold separately: somewhere enclosed to hide, and something sturdy to shred. Buy them apart and you use up two corners of a room. Combined into one unit, a cat can sleep, wake, stretch, scratch and bat at something without ever leaving the same square of floor, which is exactly how cats prefer to arrange their day.

The base is a round felt house with a cut-out entrance, so the walls give the enclosed, backed-into feeling that makes a nervous cat settle rather than sleeping with one eye open. On top sits a play board with holes cut through it for batting at dangling toys, and a sisal-wrapped post rises from the structure to take the scratching. Sisal matters here: it is coarse enough to satisfy the pull of claws through fibre, which is the reason cats scratch furniture in the first place.

• Round felt house with a cut-out entrance
• Holed play board on top for batting toys
• Sisal-wrapped scratching post
• Sleeping, scratching and play in a single footprint
• One version, no colour or size options

Who it's for: Indoor cats who like to hide while they sleep, and households short on floor space for separate beds and scratching posts.
