The footwell is where the trouble starts. A dog on a flat back seat slides forward into it on the first hard brake, then spends the rest of the journey trying to climb back up. Clipping the front corners to the headrests turns the same cover into a hammock across that gap, so there is no footwell to fall into and the dog stays on a level surface the whole way.

The fabric is quilted and waterproof, so mud, drool and a wet coat sit on the surface rather than soaking into your upholstery, and it wipes down between walks or goes through the machine when it needs more than that.
