It is called Chicken Dental Cat Treats, and the chicken is 4%
The composition reads meat and animal derivatives at 20% dehydrated poultry protein, of which 4% comes from chicken, with cereals, vegetable protein extracts, oils and fats and fish and fish derivatives making up most of the rest. Chicken is the flavour rather than the substance, and there is fish in here as well, which matters if that is the thing your cat reacts to. The other problem is that the two feeding guides we have been sent disagree with each other - one says 16 treats a day for a 2.5 kg cat and the other says 17 - so read the pack, count them as part of the day's food rather than on top of it, and supervise your cat while they are eating, which is Purina's own instruction.
Why we chose it
Purina put a texture argument behind this one instead of just a shape, and at this price that is about the most you can reasonably ask of a dental treat. It is also the cheapest daily dental option on my list by some distance, which counts when the guide runs to sixteen a day. I have flagged the 4% chicken above because the name on the front of the pack does not.

Full description
A dental treat is measured out rather than handed over. Purina's own guide for these is 16 a day for an adult cat of 2.5 kg, which is a wholly different proposition from the two or three you toss across a kitchen floor - and once a treat is a daily ration, the composition is worth reading properly rather than glancing at.
The texture is the mechanism. Purina designed these porous and crunchy so that the treat surrounds all sides of the tooth as the cat bites, rather than shattering off the tip, and that is what they credit with reducing tartar build-up, including on the back teeth that are hardest to reach. Analytical constituents are 35.0% protein, 13.1% fat content, 8.5% crude ash and 3.6% crude fibre, with calcium at 1.5% and taurine at 1800 mg/kg. The pack is 140G, and there are no added colours.

Who it's for: owners of an adult cat who have accepted that brushing is never going to happen and want something with a mechanism behind it. Not the treat for a cat with a fish problem, and not one to buy on the strength of the word chicken.

Common questions
How much chicken is in them?
4%, sitting inside 20% dehydrated poultry protein under the meat and animal derivatives heading. Chicken is the flavour rather than the bulk of it.
How many should my cat have a day?
Purina's guide is 16 treats a day for an adult cat weighing 2.5 kg, although a second version of that guide says 17, so read the pack. They count as part of the day's food, so trim the main meal accordingly.
Do they contain fish?
Yes. Fish and fish derivatives are in the composition, which matters if fish is what your cat reacts to.
How are they meant to work on teeth?
Purina designed a porous, crunchy texture meant to surround all sides of the tooth as the cat bites, including the hard-to-reach back teeth, and credit that with reducing tartar build-up.
What is the protein content?
35.0% protein, with 13.1% fat content, 8.5% crude ash and 3.6% crude fibre. Calcium is 1.5% and taurine 1800 mg/kg.
