Giving a character toy feathers instead of plain fabric for a tail is a small change, but it's exactly the kind of detail that decides whether a cat keeps returning to it after the first few minutes.

Olwyn Owl contains catnip and crinkle material, with feathers standing in for a tail, weighing 0.08kg. It sits at the lower-cost end of Coolpet's character range.

• Owl shape with feathers for a tail

• Sold as a single toy
• Supervised use recommended, with packaging removed before play

On the feathers. As with Coolpet's feather-tailed mouse in the same range, the feathers are the part most likely to come loose under sustained chewing — worth checking periodically rather than assuming they're as durable as the plush body.

Who it's for: cats that like grabbing and chewing at a toy's tail specifically, and owners happy to supervise a toy with a feathered element.
