Full description
The most useful thing a lickable treat does has very little to do with flavour. It buys you half a minute of a cat's undivided attention without having to hold the cat, and anybody who has tried to look inside a set of ears, get drops into an eye, or convince a suspicious cat that a visitor is acceptable knows exactly what that is worth.
The composition is tuna 22%, salmon 4%, tapioca starch, sunflower oil, fish oil, yogurt powder and chicory extract. Declared nutritional additives are taurine 385mg, vitamin C 130mg and vitamin E 130mg per kg. Analytical constituents are protein 7.5%, fat content 3.5%, crude fibre 0.1%, crude ash 1% and moisture 83.5%. Cookhouse describe it as naturally grain and gluten free with no artificial preservatives or colours, list it for all breeds of adult cat, and sell it in single-serve sachets in a 90g pack.
- 90g pack of single-serve sachets
- Tuna 22%, salmon 4%, tapioca starch, sunflower oil, fish oil, yogurt powder, chicory extract
- Protein 7.5%, fat content 3.5%, crude fibre 0.1%, crude ash 1%
- Moisture 83.5%
- Taurine 385mg, vitamin C 130mg and vitamin E 130mg per kg
- Grain and gluten free, listed for adult cats of all breeds
It is called Salmon, and salmon is the smaller of the two fish in it. Tuna is declared at 22% and salmon at 4%. Neither figure is concealed - both are printed in the composition - but the name on the sachet points at the one there is less of, and that is worth knowing if you were choosing it for salmon specifically. Two other things: Cookhouse's own copy talks about vitamins C and D while the declared additives are vitamins C and E, with no vitamin D figure appearing anywhere, and no sachet count is published for the pack, so there is no way to work out how long one lasts.
Who it's for: owners of adult cats who want a lickable treat that actually declares what is in it, and particularly anyone who needs half a minute of a suspicious cat's cooperation on a regular basis.

Why we chose it
Lickable treats are among the most useful things on a cat shelf and most of them declare next to nothing, so a full composition with a printed additive list is the reason this one made the cut. Single-serve sachets mean no half-used pouch going hard at the back of the fridge. It is priced as an everyday thing rather than a special occasion, which is how they get used in practice.
