Full description
A dog that won't reliably let go of a stick will usually let go of a shaped dumbbell without a fight, because the design gives them somewhere obvious to carry it that isn't your hand or their own leg.
Coachi's Training Dumbbell follows the classic retrieve-toy profile: a central bar with weighted ends, buoyant enough to float, and built to hold up to repeated retrieves rather than being a single-session toy. This is the Large of Coachi's three sizes, and it's suited to gundog work, puppy training and everyday fetch alike.
- Large size: 7.5 inches long, weighing 1lb
- Floats in water
- Suited to gundog, puppy training and everyday retrieval play
- Described by Coachi as tough and durable
On sizing. This is the Large of three Coachi dumbbell sizes — Small is 4 inches and 0.4lb, Medium is 5.5 inches and 0.6lb. No guidance is given on which size suits which dog, so it's worth matching it to your dog's mouth by eye rather than by breed.
Who it's for: gundog owners and puppy trainers who want a classic retrieve dummy their dog will actually pick up and bring back, rather than run off with.

Why we chose it
It's the shape that does the work here, not any clever feature — a dog picks this up more readily than a stick or a ball, which makes retrieval training genuinely faster to teach. Buying the Large rather than guessing at Medium avoids a return for most adult dogs.
