Floor space is the thing most cat owners run short of, especially in a flat, and a bed in one corner plus a scratcher in another eats a surprising amount of it. Stacking the two solves that: a den underneath for sleeping, a scratching surface on the roof, one footprint. Cats like sleeping with a roof over them and they like scratching where they wake up, so the arrangement suits the way they actually use a room.

The body is solid wood rather than covered board, with a pitched roof faced in sisal so the top doubles as a scratch pad and a lookout perch, and antler-shaped trim on top for a bit of seasonal character. The semi-enclosed den below is draught-sheltered but open enough that a cat can watch the room from inside, which is what nervous cats want, and a soft cushion is included for the floor of it. Two sizes are offered.

• Solid wooden construction
• Pitched roof faced with a sisal scratch pad
• Semi-enclosed den below with a soft cushion included
• Doubles as a raised perch
• Antler-shaped decorative trim
• Two sizes: Large and Extra Large

Two things worth knowing. Also, the scratch pad is on the roof and therefore horizontal: cats who scratch vertically up a sofa arm or a door frame will not necessarily transfer to it, and may still want an upright post as well.

Who it's for: Flats and smaller homes wanting a bed, a scratcher and a perch in one solid piece of cat furniture.
